Game Servers
There are 4 servers to choose from when a new game account is being created. The game will assign a default server if your IP belongs to the country/region from the following list. You are free to pick the server you prefer if you play it on mobile devices or Windows computers. For PS4/PS5 users, server is automatically selected depending on your PSN account.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Server
There are basically two considerations when it comes to deciding the server when you create a game account in Genshin Impact. Firstly of course you should play on one that is closer to your physical location because in online games no one enjoys lags or high pings due to long network data transmission. On the other hand, whether you need to have co-op games with your friends can be another key question, because to play Genshin Impact together with your friends, you all must be on the same server.
Each of the servers has its own list of players. If you and your friends are not on same server, you cannot even find them in your server. So either you or your friends have to change server in order to make the co-op game happen.
What Happens When Changing Server?
The server selection button appears in the startup screen when you log on to the game on mobile or Windows PC. However before switching server you must also understand the consequences.
“Changing server” doesn’t mean you can migrate characters between servers. It actually means you start all over again on another server which also implies you are not able to continue the progress you currently have in your original account. After that you will still keep your progress and characters in your original server, and on the newly picked server you will be starting the journey again from Level 1.
Make sure this is what you expect before changing. There is no harm though. You can always switch between servers. Some people regards the alternative server as a “sub-account” because it seems more handy to switch between servers than log-on and off between two separate player accounts.
